Re-Examining Telepathy: A Summary

Most of the time online or in books you see long drawn out methods of performing or developing an Extra Sensory Perception type skill by means of passively collecting information or forcefully "sending" it from one mind to another.

This form of practice may at times yield results, some significant and some not so profound, and because we do not know the exact mechanism by which ESP is enacted, we can only assume that the commonly used methods of development leave room for improvement. I'm an avid fan of not only developing my mind but my body. So between the occasional fast food benders, late night study sessions ending in a frenzy of Dorito, Sprite, and candy bottles, bags, and wrappers all over the place, I am big in not only eating healthy but exercising regularly. I've gone through various phases in my workout routines, ranging from high weight low rep work outs to build muscle, to high rep body weight circuit training to create a more lean and toned look while building endurance.

We all have different body types and therefore for us to get to our goals we all know that what works for one person may not have the same exact effect for another. This is true in pretty much all areas of life, so we need to find a common ground we can all work from.

What do we know so far? Well, so far we understand that in order to get to our goal we must put forth effort and commitment. We know that most things take practice and repetition, so we should not look at ESP, or anything else that can fall into the Parapsychological Field as being any different.

If we are talking about Telepathy, which is my primary example in this little piece, we know that the core of this "ability" revolves around communication.
Now, we should know that it's honestly a lot easier to hop online and send someone an e-mail, or drop them a phone call/text, however, there can be a lot more uses for something such as telepathy, even on a very minute level.

So how can we improve the way we practice such a skill without hours of research and experimentation? The answer is a lot more simple than many have allowed themselves to think about. If we look at the skill in its practical sense, as opposed to the glorified theatrical appeal many look forward to developing, or that of famed stories from individuals like Wolf Messing, we can come to a working and effective form of practice, use, and development for not only Telepathy, but a lot of other "abilities" looked at in Parapsychology.

We have already examined what we do know about telepathy, and the focal point here is that of communication. Like in fitness you don't just randomly work out with no goal intended and then expect to have a certain result at the end of the year. However, over time we may begin working out with little understanding of what works and what doesn't, and after some trial and error, some injuries, and just time, we may come to a decent understanding of what works to get what result.

The same goes for Telepathy. Due to our knowing it is Communication by "non-normal" means, we understand that communication is still apparent, and we can communicate in many ways other than vocalizing what we mean to say.

Communication actually relies very little on word usage (only about 7%). So for an individual attempting to relay an idea or impression by means of only words would be somewhat ineffective. We know that it is not so much so WHAT you say, as it is HOW you say what you say that matters when we are engaging in typical forms of communication.

About 38% of communication is understood by this simple principal. We all have experienced a word or phrase used around friends that meant no harm and was actually quite innocent, or at the least not disrespectful. However, the same word or phrase coming from that same friend or a different individual with the intent for it to be hurtful has a completely different feel to it, and so we react differently to it.
The most effective form of communication when in person with someone is body language, about 55% of all communication is visual, meaning what we see when we are around someone. This means that just because someone says one thing, we can easily take this a completely different way by their body language when they say whatever it is they are saying. A smile vs a frown, a glare vs loving, kind hearted eyes.

When we take all of this into consideration and relate this to Telepathy we slowly start to see a very interesting picture being painted. Learning the uses and forms of communication by physical means, and how to utilize said forms of communication can have a very significant role in your understanding and development of Telepathy.

As infants we do not understand how to communicate exactly what we want, and so all we can do is cry and depend on our parents to know what we need. In telepathy we are all infants, and as such we should apply what we know about physical communication to it's non-physical counterpart. If not for actual development, at least for experimentation's sake.

After giving numerous lectures with the Red Cross, and in class presentations I have learned that when trying to apply Telepathy to actual real life situations, it is most effective when you are of course in front of an individual, and secondly when you have learned to apply other means of communication. Such as influencing a crowd to sway to your side more so than another, or simply trying to portray your idea or side in a way you know it commonly wouldn't be seen. It is in presentation and delivery. If you take the time to learn about body language and use that to your advantage when working with Telepathy you learn that if you simply project an idea or intent, with time you may see decent results with people somewhat being swayed by this.

However, if you also project the physical actions, the emotional response those actions have on you, the feeling you wish for people to pick up on, etc... as one thought, one intent, your success rates go up. Be that for projecting the thought of apple juice or crowd control. This is even more so amplified when you are actually there, acting out what you wish to portray, while you are "sending" or projecting the intent.

Now. I'm not going in depth in this about the concepts presented herein, simply because that is a very lengthy piece to write, and for me to start from square one and work my way down would take some time. I wrote this with the assumptions that many of you guys reading this have a basic understanding of not only sociology, but esp, and if you do not know the latter, I would suggest visiting the Perception section at PsiPog, as well as perhaps visiting the Psionics Section at Veritas.

Just in short, this was simply a little summary trying to get you guys to look at how you practice, and not strictly look at the Psionics side, and the Science side, but find a common ground and work with what you know to improve what you're working towards. No one has all of the answers, so experimenting and developing what works for you is exactly what you need to progress. :P I wish you the best of luck in your ventures and hope I at least inspired some thoughtful thinking. This was very brief and vague on most of the topics, but I will write that longer piece as soon as I can. You know... The one where I actually give you the oh so sought after How-To's :). For now, just keep on keeping on!
